Finish Line Fabulous: Sweat Proof Makeup for Runners
You’ve trained for your goal race and now you want to know what is the best sweat proof makeup for runners so you can get the very best finish line photos. I felt this way after I ran my first races and hated my photos. I wasn’t going to win, I’m not fast at all, but I at least wanted some great photos commemorating my training. For the last 10 years I’ve ran over 50+ races while wearing makeup and here are my recommendations.
What’s the best way to apply makeup for running?
The simple process is really 6 steps:
- Cleanse
- Moisturize
- SPF
- Prime
- Apply
- Set
The first 3 of those 6 steps you are going to do whether you apply makeup or not. Cleanse with your regular cleanser and then moisturize your face.
Sunscreen SPF for Running
Lastly, I cannot stress enough that you need to put wear sunscreen. I was not quite as diligent with the SPF in years past as I wish I would have been, now that I’m in my mid-40’s. Finding a great sunscreen for running that doesn’t sweat into your eyes is important and should be tested before race day.
Here are my favorite sunscreen recommendations for running:
Best primer for sweat-proof makeup while running
After you apply the sunscreen, primer is your next best friend to keeping the makeup in place while you run. I’m a big fan of the ELF primers and NYX primer for drugstore primer that can stand up the the sweat test. I have also tested my Fenty Beauty primer which I love.
Makeup that I wear while I run
Now you are ready for the rest of your makeup. This part is completely personal, and up to you how much to wear or what you want to focus on. When I first started running I only cared that I had something to make my eyes not look so scary and that I was always wearing lipstick. I’ve evolved over time to most of my everyday routine, which for me I can get done in 10-15 minutes and is worth it for me to do on race morning. When it comes to the best makeup for runners my picks can be found here:
Best Setting Spray to achieve sweat-proof makeup while running
The final step to achieve your long lasting swear-proof makeup look, is setting spray. I swear by this Mehron Barrier Spray that you can get on Amazon. I once heard someone say that friends of the Disney Princesses use this at Walt Disney World, so I started using it. My makeup goes all day in the heat of Florida and can outlast the miles for any race that I might run in makeup. I have also used the NYX settings sprays and the Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray. All great options!
These steps should make sure you reach the finish line looking absolutely flawless in your race photos. I use the same technique for those hot and sweaty Disney park days as well. So you can go worry free that your liner and mascara won’t be dripping down your face. But don’t forget to remove your makeup properly to maintain a good skincare routine. I love to remove my makeup with the Cerave Makeup Remover Cleansing Balm and cleanse my face with cleanser to make sure everything gets removed.
I am always trying new things in makeup and skincare so I can find the best products to help fight my aging skin and help me stay looking my best. Being a Disney World local, I love the run Disney races and going to Walt Disney World, but also anything Disney. Check out some of my favorite Disney makeup collabs that I use from here.
